If you are reading this article, then you might have the same problem I did a few years ago – finding a perfect business suit. I tried hundreds on, but was not happy with the look. I simply never knew how to find the suit that fits me perfectly. Never knew what to look for and which style suits me more. If you got the same problem, then my 5 tips on finding that perfect business suit will help to solve it. After reading this, you will feel that this task is not as difficult as you always thought it is.
Here are my 5 precious tips and advices….
Perfect business suit finding Tip No.1: Jacket
Probably one of the main part of all suits has always been jacket. There are too many various styles available on the market and it is easy to get really confused.
The two most popular types of jacket would be single- and double-breasted jackets. But be careful with these. If you have got a bit of excessive weight, then double-breasted jacket will make you look much fatter. Therefore it is better to be avoided by those, who’s got some weight issues. Although, this style would look great on skinny, thin men. Bigger men should opt for single-breasted jackets.
When you try the jacket on, make sure that it fits perfectly. Button the jacket up and sit down. The level of comfort should not change and the jacket should not bunch up.
Perfect business suit finding Tip No.2: Trousers/Pants
OK, now you have decided which jacket style suits you more and it’s time to get those pants right. If you are after the slimming effect, then it is better to choose flat-front pants, rather than pleated. If you are quite tall, then cuffed legs would suit you the most. If you consider yourself short, then trousers without cuffs is the way to go. However, pants without cuffs are more informal, than cuffed ones.
When trying pants on remember to test them. Sit down and check how comfortable you feel wearing these. Also make sure, that trousers sit on the waist and not hips. Pants should break slightly on the top of your shoes. And the most crucial part of it all: check that your socks ain’t seen when you walk! Especially if you wear some awkward pair of socks…
Perfect business suit finding Tip No.3: Fabric
When choosing the fabric for business suit, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. The ideal fabric for business suit would most definitely be wool. Woolen suits fit much better and look more sophisticated. Although, you need to remember, that business suits made of wool are usually on a more expensive side.
If you are looking for winter suit, then opt for tweed or flannel suits. For hotter seasons go for tropical wool. However, be prepared to fight all those wrinkles. For all year round business suit gabardine fabric would suit the best.
If you are looking for a cheaper versions, then you can try polyester business suit. These don’t wrinkle that much and the price is much cheaper. But (yeah…there’s always a BUT), polyester suits tend not to let the air through. Which may make you quite sweaty and that might ruin all your great business look.
So sometimes, it is better to invest a little bit more money to get that perfect business suit, which can give you the desired sophisticated, clean look.
Perfect business suit finding Tip No.4: Color
Which business suit color you prefer? Do you want your suit to be plain or patterned?
The traditional three colors for business suits are considered to be: black, gray and navy. That be amazing if you would have at least one of each (Charcoal gray, Black and Navy Blue), if you tend to wear suits on a daily basis.
If you are young, then it is advisable not to wear navy blue business suits, as this color does accentuate the youth too much. It is better to opt for charcoal gray.
Black suit is very similar to formal wear and also gives you the authority look.
Navy blue business suits are very elegant and also very common among business people.
If you decide that you want a patterned fabric for your business suit, then please make sure that the actual patterns line up at shoulder and lapel seams.
Perfect business suit finding Tip No.5: Buy in bulk
If you find that perfect business suit that you absolutely love, then it is wise to consider buying a few of them. Check if there are any other colors available. You can’t wear just one suit every single day, therefore buy a few. And if you really feel comfortable in a particular suit, why not to have a few. It saves time in finding another business suit that would feel the same.
Check the store if they give a discount for a multiple buy. It’s always worth a try.
Golden rule:
